چکیده

Abstract. In the last decade, DEM-based classifiers based on height above nearest drainage (HAND) have been widely used for rapid flood hazard assessment, demonstrating satisfactory performance inland floods. The main limitation is high sensitivity of HAND to topography, which degrades accuracy these methods in flat coastal regions. addition, are mostly a given return period and generate static maps past events. To cope with two limitations, here we modify HAND, propose composite hydrogeomorphic index, develop threshold operative curves real-time assessment areas. We select Savannah River delta as test bed, calibrate proposed index Hurricane Matthew, validate developed Irma. multiplication normalized geomorphic features, distance drainage. calibration procedure tests different combinations weights features determines most appropriate mapping. Reference generated by well-calibrated hydrodynamic model, Delft3D FM water level periods. For each specific period, that provides maximum fit relevant reference map determined. collection thresholds periods curves. Validation results demonstrate total cells misclassified (summation overprediction underprediction) less than 20 % area. validation indicates efficiency our methodology fast reliable estimation areas an upcoming event, can be beneficial emergency responders risk managers.

Flood Hazard Assessment Using Panchromatic Satellite Imagery

Panchromatic (PAN) satellite imagery has been used successfully in different applications such as topographic mapping and terrain modelling. Nevertheless, PAN imagery is still one of the less used digital sources for land-change studies except few processes where the high-resolution of the PAN images is used to improve the visualization quality of the multi-spectral images. This research aimed ...

A Real Time Simulation and Modeling of Flood Hazard

The increasing flash flood hazards in major cities like Kuala Lumpur have caused tremendous damages to the society and this requires more essential countermeasures to be implemented. With the advancement in 3D Computer Graphics and fluid simulation technologies, movie experts can now produce realistic visual effects for fluid objects such as water. This paper describes a study made to model and...

Panchromatic Satellite Image Classification for Flood Hazard Assessment

The study aims to investigate the use of panchromatic (PAN) satellite image data for flood hazard assessment with an aid of various digital image processing techniques. Two SPOT PAN satellite images covering part of the Nile River in Egypt were used to delineate the flood extent during the years 1997 and 1998 (before and after a high flood). Three classification techniques, including the contex...

Real-Time Tracking with Classifiers

Two basic facts motivate this paper: (1) particle filter based trackers have become increasingly powerful in recent years, and (2) object detectors using statistical learning algorithms often work at a near realtime rate. We present the use of classifiers as likelihood observation function of a particle filter. The original resulting method is able to simultaneously recognize and track an objec...
